Our product- and development partner Nuvera Fuel Cells, LCC is among 12 partners of the APOLO project, which launched in January 2024. This initiative, funded by the European Union, will use power conversion technologies – including fuel cells – to enable maritime transport decarbonisation.
Nuvera will provide a 125 kW fuel cell engine capable of operating on hydrogen derived from ammonia, a renewable fuel gaining significance in the maritime sector. Partners in the project in addition to Nuvera Fuel Cells are; Tecnalia, H2Site, Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, Corvus Energy, 1 CUBE, Chalmers Tekniska Hogskola, Astander, LEC GMBH and Fertiberia. Through the program, the partners will work on the development, integration and demonstration of the ammonia cracker, for these systems used onboard ships.
"We are very grateful for this development and the value it also will bring for our PB125 Powerboxes, as ammonia will be an important fuel of the energy mix for ships sailing the longest routes." said Elling Helvig, Chairman of HELINOR.
